What is RADS?

RADS is the acronym for the Rutgers Antivirus Delivery Service and is the supported antivirus solution for Windows platforms at Rutgers University. RADS currently leverages antivirus and anti-spyware technology from Trend Micro.

Simply put, the purpose of providing the University community with a free solution such as RADS is to protect everyone from threats on the Internet and to ensure that in the event a system does become infected with a virus, it does not adversely effect other systems on the network.

Who can use it?

RADS can be used by any Rutgers University faculty, staff, or student, including new students, faculty, and staff who have been admitted to/hired by the University but are not yet on campus. However, once you are no longer an active faculty, staff, or student at the University, you must uninstall RADS from your PC. This includes alumni, retirees, and those who leave Rutgers for other reasons.

RADS can be used from both on campus and/or PCs connected at homes through Internet Service Providers (ISPs) other than Rutgers. You do not have to be connected to the Rutgers network to use RADS. You simply need an internet connection such as DSL, a cable modem, or even a regular dialup modem.

RADS works with any of the Microsoft Windows operating systems from Windows 95 up through Windows Server 2003. MacOS, Linux, and Netware users should visit the Rutgers Antivirus Solutions page to find the correct antivirus software for their platform.
